September 10, 2004
1:30-3:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's Changes
in Health Care Financing and Organization (HCFO) and State
Coverage Initiatives (SCI) programs hosted a Web- and audio-based
conference to share updated research results from three projects
that examine consumer-driven health plans (CDHPs). This Cyber Seminar
presented new findings on account based consumer-driven health plans.
It also featured the release of two important resources: an SCI
Issue Brief, Health Savings Accounts: Issues and Implementation
Decisions for States, and the August 2004 Health Services
Research special issue, "Consumer-Driven Health Care-
Beyond Rhetoric with Research and Experience".
The
Cyber Seminar began with a presentation of the research results,
moved to an analysis of the policy implications, and then invited
questions and comments. Following presentations by Meredith
Rosenthal (Harvard School of Public Health), Stephen
Parente (University of Minnesota), and Judith
Hibbard (University of Oregon), Paul
Fronstin (Employee Benefit Research Institute) and Scott
Leitz (Minnesota Department of Health) participated in a moderated
discussion placing the research findings in a policy context. Bonnie
Austin, HCFO senior manager, and Jeremy
Alberga, SCI senior manager, served as moderators.
Support
for the research projects and conference development was provided
by The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation under its HCFO
and State Coverage Initiatives
programs.
AcademyHealth is the National Program Office for HCFO and SCI.
